Unsure how to start building your makeup bag? Trying to clear out and keep the essentials? Don't know what to bring on holidays? Or simply unsure of what you actually need?
Below is my 10 Makeup Essentials that every girl needs!
Primer |
Whether you use it daily or only for special occasions, primer is an
essential to ensure makeup stays looking fresh and flawless.
**DUPE ALERT** The Body shop InsaBlur is renowned for being just as good
(if not better) than the famous Benefit PoreFessional (£26). Its silicon
texture fills in pores, letting you apply makeup on to a smooth canvas, as well as
keeping oily skin at bay throughout the day.
Foundation |
Foundation evens skin tone hides blemishes and makes skin look more
awake, my all time favourite foundation is the No7 Stay Perfect Foundation. This provides skin
with a Light to Medium coverage which is buildable making it perfect
for days I want a super natural look, and nights I want more coverage.
What’s great about this
foundation is that its super lightweight on the skin so you don't feel like you’re
wearing makeup. A major bonus is that its non-comedogenic and hypoallergenic so it’s
perfect for those with sensitive or acne prone skin.
The No7 Brand caters for very light skin, so girls if your struggling to
find a foundation to suit you try out their colour match service!
Concealer |
Another must have is a decent concealer. Firstly, you need to decide how
high a coverage you would like your concealer to have, before tracking down the one for you.
The Maybelline
Concealer is light to medium and very bendable therefore I use it for
highlighting more so than concealing as I rather a very high coverage
concealer.
Without a doubt the Vichy Dermablend
has been my saviour for years, I first discovered it when I was looking for a
foundation to cover acne and redness, however I quickly hated the idea of
covering my entire face in a heavy coverage foundation, when I only needed high
coverage in specific areas. Instead, I started using it as a concealer and haven’t
changed since! I apply this under my eyes (bye bye dark circles...) and on any
blemishes I have.
Vichy do have a range of "proper" concealers, but
they just don't live up to this one! It may seem like an expensive product
compared to the Maybelline Concealer however when you compare the weight and
amount you use each time the Vichy Dermablend is a clear winner with 30 ml
compared to the 6 ml of Maybelline's.
Blusher |
Blusher can really help brighten your face and stop it looking dull. By knowing your undertones and skin tones it can
really help you find a great blusher to suit your skin, typically pale/fair skin
suits Baby Pink or Peachy coloured blushes, whereas Berry and Mauve tones look
better on medium skin and bright pinks and bold
oranges suit darker skin.
A personal favourite of mine is the
Benefit CORALista Blusher as it gives a natural peach hue, as well as a
soft glow to the skin.
Mascara |
Mascara is a must have! I swear by
the Estee Lauder Mascaras yes, a little pricey however they are amazing. I
find they are extremely long wearing, don't smudge throughout the day or flake
off! Annoying black flakes under your eyes is never a good look...
This one is designed to add volume and thicken lashes.
Eyeshadow |
Every Makeup bag needs a decent eye shadow palette. Doesn't matter how
big or small, eye shadow allows you to go from a pretty day look to fierce night
time diva. The Morphe 35OM is my all time favorite it has every colour I'd
ever need to create a variety of looks. Since it is pretty huge I'd also
recommend a Z Palette (£17.50) which
you create your own personal palette from as well as the BH Cosmetics Shaaanoxo Palette (£18) which
includes a lip and shadow palette all in one! These are smaller and a lot more
likely to fit into your makeup bag if you’re not a fan of big palettes!
Eyeliner |
Maybelline Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner - £7.99
Now eyeliner isn't exactly an essential, however you can’t
deny eyeliner really dramatizes any
eye look, whether you only use a little or go out I
think it has a strong spot in every girl’s makeup bag. Most of you know I'm a diehard
fan of the Maybelline Gel Eyeliner and have been for years however, being
someone not keen on pen eyeliners the
CIATÉ eyeliner pen caught
me off guard... it has an excellent tip that allows you to create sharp flicks
and has proved to be long wearing as it doesn’t fade throughout the day and it
hasn't (yet) dried out on me!
Bronzer |
Bronzer is one of those makeup products that I think makes a huge
difference to your face.
Foundation to light? Use Bronzer. Want chizzled cheeks
and a smaller nose? Use Bronzer. Forgot eye shadow? Use Bronzer.
While bronzer may not give the same impact as a contour powder (Bronzer
has a warm under tone, Contour has a grey undertone giving that shadow affect)
it gives the skin a sun kissed glow, and versatile enough that it can act as a
contour or eye shadow.
Eyebrow Powder / Eyebrow Gel |
Out of all current beauty trends brows have become big business. Whether
you like big bold brows or natural groomed ones, some form of brow product is
essential in everyone's makeup bag.
I recently have started to prefer using a
Brow Powder as it allows me to go natural or heavy handed if I want, then I go
in with a brow gel on top to set the product in place. On days, I want
a more natural look I just use the brow gel on its own, as it gives colour to
the brows and makes them look neat and tidy.
Everyday Lipstick |
Wet n Wild Lipstick - Bare it All £3.00
Lastly an everyday lipstick or lip balm should be part of every girls makeup
bag, whether it’s a bold colour or a nice nude, lipstick can really pull a
look together.
Bare it All by Wet n Wild is a perfect everyday nude lipstick, it’s
the perfect mix between a peachy and pink shade. Not to mention I love Wet n Wild
lipsticks, they are extremely affordable as well as come in a wide variety of
colours similar to that of MAC dupes. Another favourite of mine is MAC Taupe,
this is a slightly brighter shade, but just as pretty! If you’re on a budget I recommend
checking out Wet n Wild lipsticks you'll be surprised of the quality and the wide range of colours!
