Budapest in 4 Days : Budapest Travel Guide

Beautiful Budapest

Known for its spectacular views and some of the best architecture in Europe, Budapest has earned itself a strong place on the Top 10 City's to visit. The currency means buying is very inexpensive, and since Uni doesn't start back until the end of January. My best friends and I decided to book ourselves a little girls break to go explore what the pretty city had to offer!

Sight Seeing

Budapest Parliament,

This is a head turner the beautiful architecture of the parliament is truly stunning and inside just gets better, gold and red covers the rooms and hallways with beautiful art work on all the ceilings.

Heroes Square

One of the biggest squares in Budapest, the Millennium Monument is laid in the centre of the square, it was created to mark the 1000th anniversary of Hungary. This is one of the further sights from the centre of Budapest to visit, however its very close to the famous Szechenyi Baths so we visited the square first then spent the rest of the day at the baths.

The Chain Bridge
One of the most famous sights in Budapest, this bridge was the first bridge built to connect Buda and Pest together. Fun Fact - Budapest is actually two places, Buda is known as the hilly region whereas Pest is relatively flat.

Szechenyi Baths,
One of the coolest experiences I've ever tried, you walk through rooms with filled with lots of small pools, these aren't your typical chlorine filled pools though, the water used is supplied by two thermal springs, so the smell is completely different and kind of odd at the same time, the Szechenyi Bath is the largest Medical Pool in European, its HUGE, when we visited it the temperature was 3° outside and being our silly selves we left our towels in the changing rooms which meant a very quick and cold run outside to the pool, trying not slip and fall on the ice,
The pool outside is pretty unbelievable, its extremely therapeutic, with it being so cold outside but the water so warm there is a constant mist rising from the water making it very relaxing, never have I sat so happily in a pool all day!

                                          Travel Tips

Great Market Hall
1. TRY THE HOT CHOCOLATE, you will fall in love!
Okay.. firstly one thing I need to put out there is hot chocolate... its BIG in Budapest and let me tell you, they know how to make a damn good one. It's smooth yet creamy, a rich chocolaty taste yet not to overpowering, to be honest the idea of going back to using typical Cadburys Hot chocolate is sad...

2. Prepare to walk, ALOT!!
Pack good walking shoes because you'll need them! Yes you can depend on the Hop On Hop Off buses to take you to the sights of Budapest but you'll find so many little streets and different gems along the way that it makes walking worth it!

3. Take in the Budapest night life
Budapest is known for its many "Ruin Bars" these are a bunch of little quirky bars bunched together making night life fab! With drinks being extremely inexpensive it also makes pub crawls very good!

4. Try the Pasta
One thing I noticed was the numerous Italian restaurants around Budapest, there's also quite a few shops that you can buy homemade pasta in, if you're a pasta lover you'll be in for a treat!

5. Bring a Towel and Flipflops to the Baths,
You can rent a towel at the baths if you would like however you cant buy flip flops, maybe at warmer times of the year it would be ok to go bare foot, but in the winter months when its already freezing outside running from pool to pool on the cool icy ground isn't fun.

For anyone undecided where to go for a short break I'd definitely encourage checking out Budapest, you can easily find cheap flights and accommodation, and with cheap exchange rates and buzzing nightlife, why not?
